Planishing is a metalworking process that includes carefully shaping and smoothing sheet metal by pounding it against a shaped surface. This can be done with a hand-held hammer over a forming head or stake, or by using instead a Pneumatic Hammer hitting the metal hundreds of times per minute to drastically speeding up the operation. Material can be Planished directly from a flat sheet or, more typically, by roughly shaping out with a Sand Bag and Mallet first and then completing with a Planisher. Steel, Aluminium, Copper, and Brass are just a few of the materials that may be Planished. Custom Motorcycle Tanks, Mudguards, Hot Rods and Classic Vehicle Bodywork, Patch Panels for Automotive Restoration and Metal Sculpting are the most typical applications. The Pneumatic Planishing Hammer is much easier to learn and use than the English Wheel.

To get started using it all you need is a regular 15-100psi Air Compressor with a 12 CFM capability.
